Stoic Goes to Hell

A Stoic goes to hell
And says, “I was already there
“You can live in the light
“And still live under despair
“'Cause when everyone else was in ecstasy
“I was burning inside at their apathy
“And not one of them wanted to share with me
“But down here we all share in our misery

A Stoic goes to hell
And flames rise up from the sea
He clears the ash from his eyes
And says, “This is where I’m meant to be
“‘Cause if Hell is a place, well, then Love must be, too
“And I've never been there, but I know there’s a view
“From the brochures I found stuck in every pew
“In the Chapel of We’re Fucking Better Than You

A Stoic goes to hell
And forgets the smell after a while
Damned to the fire
‘Cause he never learned to fake a smile
But he knows that it has to get better in time
What with Happiness gone out of sight and of mind
It takes more to connect there than just being kind
Thinks, “At least no one’s lot here is better than mine”

Misery Town, CA

Last train out of Misery Town
Sabotaged, the train breaks down
We’re all so glad you’ve come to stay
Your room’s been kept, your bed’s been made

The broken dreams, the lost and found
They all end up in Misery Town
Where we all share one thing in common
A similar state of confusion we’re all in

Living and losing and long cold-streaks
Beneath flickering lights on pot-holed streets
Old roots are showing through broken sidewalk
So down another glass for memories etched in white chalk

The dead-end dreams, the lost and found
We all end up in Misery Town
Where we all share something in common
The similar state of confusion we’re all in

Here we depend on the sadness of others
And we’re all too pleased to make room for another
But there’s one road out and the bridge burnt down
We’ve stranded ourselves here in Misery Town
